KINGSPORT – Kingsport City Schools is pleased to announce principal appointments, effective July 3, 2012.
Mr. Kim Harvey has been named principal of John Sevier Middle School. For the past nine years, Mr. Harvey has served as principal at Rock Springs Elementary in Sullivan County. He has worked a total of 32 years in education, having previously served as an assistant principal at Sullivan Central High School and a teacher, coach, and assistant principal at Blountville Middle School. Mr. Harvey holds a B.S. in Education from Virginia Tech University and a Master of Science in Education plus 30 in Supervision and Administration from East Tennessee State University.
"I have been blessed to work in the Sullivan County School system for 32 years and have had an opportunity to work with fantastic teachers and a supportive community,” said Harvey. “I look forward to being a part of the Kingsport City School system and contributing to the quality traditions and educational excellence at John Sevier Middle School."
Dr. Stephanie Potter has been named principal of John Adams Elementary School. Dr. Potter has served as the Assistant to the Principal at Ross N. Robinson Middle School for the last three years. She has a total of 16 years experience as an educator, working as a teacher in Lee County and Scott County, Virginia. She has also served as the Kingsport City Schools Section 504 Coordinator. Dr. Potter has a B.A. in Liberal Studies with Elementary Education K-8 from Carson Newman College, a Master of Arts in Curriculum Education from Tusculum College, an Educational Specialist in Education Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University, and a Doctorate in Teaching and Learning from Liberty University.
"I am very proud to enter the ranks of Kingsport City School’s administrative team as principal at John Adams Elementary,” said Dr. Potter. “I look forward to continuing to serve the students of Kingsport and working with the elite group of educators we are so blessed to have in our system."
Ms. Shanna Hensley has been named principal of John F. Kennedy Elementary School. For the previous three years, Ms. Hensley has served as an Assistant to the Principal at Johnson Elementary from 2009-2011 and at Lincoln Elementary in 2011-12. She has worked for Kingsport City Schools for a total of 8 years, having also previously served as a teacher at Johnson Elementary. Ms. Hensley has a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis, both from East Tennessee State University.
“I am very pleased to have the opportunity to work with the students and staff of Kennedy Elementary School,” said Ms. Hensley. “I look forward to a positive and productive experience on behalf of students and to leading the continued development of an exceptional school.”
Mr. Stacy Edwards has been named principal of Andrew Johnson Elementary School. Mr. Edwards has served as principal of John F. Kennedy Elementary School for the past three years. He has 14 years experience in education, including four years as the Assistant to the Principal at Johnson Elementary and Sevier Middle School and seven years as an elementary teacher at Johnson. He earned his Bachelor’s and Educational Specialist’s degrees from East Tennessee State University and a Master’s degree from Cumberland College of Tennessee. He holds endorsements in elementary education and administration.
Additionally, with the announcement of Mr. Kim Harvey’s placement as principal of Sevier Middle School, KCS announces the resignation of Cheryl Harvey as a member of the Board of Education. “To ensure compliance with BOE policy and to maintain the integrity of the selection process, Ms. Harvey has tendered her resignation as a member of the BOE,” said KCS Superintendent Dr. Lyle Ailshie. “We emphasize hiring practices that ensure all candidates are evaluated in multiple objective ways, and Ms. Harvey has handled the situation with dignity. We appreciate her service on the Board and dedication to the students of Kingsport.”
With her resignation effective July 2, 2012, the remaining year of Ms. Harvey’s term will be filled via an appointment by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
