A Welcome from the Mayor

As Mayor, I remain committed to a couple of simple concepts.

All citizens will be treated with the utmost respect, with courteous and quick answers, and, in these tough times, we wake every morning committed to achieving nothing less than real results and positive growth in Kingsport.

In recent years, we have been blessed to participate and reap the rewards of the revival of Kingsport. Our K-12 education system continues to rank among the best in the state.

Our Higher Education initiative is paying off in real terms as we build a well-qualified workforce, and attract younger workforce as well.

We’ve seen tremendous new retail development, and registered $425 million in new commercial and residential investment in just three years, new growth that keeps property taxes low for everyone.

And, here in Kingsport, your home values are safe and growing. Multiple listing data indicates that average home prices rose for the third year in the row, and sold quicker than the regional average as well!

Certainly, no one taking a stroll downtown can deny the downtown Renaissance that is the envy of the region, while hundreds of people enjoy summertime concerts downtown every Thursday and Friday night.

Our city’s efforts have been noticed. Whether the Harvard University Innovations in Government award; the Relocate America Top 100 communities award; the Walk Magazine Most Walkable City award; or the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Siemens Sustainable Community Award, Kingsport is gaining national attention never dreamed a few years ago.

As part of these efforts, we sincerely hope this new website better serves our residents and visitors. Our goal with this website is to provide transparent government and a warm, welcoming front door to the world.
