The Kingsport Fire Department Honor Guard
Following the 9-11-01 disaster, a new desire was born to form an Honor Guard to pay tribute and respect to our fallen heroes. After some effort and work, the guard members were recruited and in place.
The next step was to purchase the uniforms. Money could not be budgeted and we were unsure how this project could be funded. Then during a casual conversation at lunch, a local businessman asked a member about the uniforms. He had an idea that the community would help if they knew there was a need. Information and prices were gathered and the fund raising effort began. In a couple of months the funds were raised and the uniforms were purchased.
The first official duty of the Honor Guard was preformed at a remembrance ceremony on September 11, 2002. The Honor Guard participates in the Kingsport 4th of July Parade. It has preformed at several events and stands in honor at fire department funerals. The Guard is looking forward to continuing the rich traditions of the Fire Department Honor Guards.
